Hurrah! Plans to erect four wind turbines in Norfolk have been blown away by a High Court judge. Sea & Land Power and Energy Ltd applied in 2009 for permission for four 340ft high turbines to stand on land close to an Area of Outstanding Beauty fringing the Norfolk Broads and coast. Naturally concerns were raised against the negative impact this would have on the local ‘open sky’ landscape and the initial application rejected by the local council and government inspectors. The case was taken to the High Court on appeal where the judge ruled preserving the landscape was more important than renewable energy targets.
A small victory but I hope an important one and a reversal in the mad march of wind turbines. What a blot on the landscape these monsters are and despite all the claims from the Green lobby and renewable energy companies to the contrary it seems the only beneficiaries of wind turbines are the landowners taking advantage of the £££subsidies on offer, not the domestic consumer enjoying a decrease in energy tariffs or a reduction in carbon emissions.
Let’s look at alternatives by all means but NOT giant wind turbines!
Yes, I have read and understand the arguments ‘for’ and ‘against’, but at the end of the day I simply prefer “…England’s green and pleasant land”.
I agree!!
Thanks. Not many people do like them it seems!
Within a 30 mile radius we must have nine “farms” around us, with the 10th just going up at Sutton Bridge. Why the Govt. can’t alter building regs to force all new builds to have solar fitted I don’t know. We need to change one way or another. Saving Resources is still regarded as someone else’s problem!
I do completely agree Antony.. they are an eye sore and not needed, we need to rethink eniro friendly sources of renewable energy. I don’t agree with the off shore turbines as well
