Alfred, Lord Tennyson a national figure and sage
A popular Victorian poet, a great man of his age
Crowned Poet Laureate and famed all through the land
Feted for his epic verse and literature long and grand
Of stirring deeds and derring-do often set to rhymes
Classic poems once read by all recounted numerous times
Words to bring the verse to life and jump up off the page
Lines to dance afore your eyes and with your mind engage
To ride with the six hundred, the Charge of the Light Brigade
Towards the thunderous cannon with the flash of sabre blade
Or perhaps beside a river lie with the Lady of Shalott
And meander through flowery bowers to seek fair Camelot
So thank you Alfred Tennyson, Lord of all you wrote
My favourite poet and wordsmith, a treasure to promote
